In a landmark development that underscores a shared commitment to the promotion of African excellence, the African Tourism Board (ATB) has formally endorsed the African Genius Awards (AGA). The African Genius Awards (AGA) are a special initiative by Priority Performance Projects, dedicated to recognising exceptional Africans who have made outstanding contributions to the advancement of African self-determination, dignity, and excellence. This partnership signifies a powerful alliance aimed at advancing the ideals of Pan-Africanism, celebrating the continent’s intellectual and cultural achievements, and promoting Africa as a hub of innovation and creativity.

This prestigious annual hybrid event is scheduled for September 7, 2024, at Fourah Bay College in Freetown, Sierra Leone. Moving forward, the first Saturday of September will be recognised as African Genius Day. Each year, the event will rotate among African capital cities, reflecting the AGA’s Pan-African outlook.

The African Tourism Board, a leading organization in the promotion of sustainable tourism across the continent, views this collaboration as a crucial step in reinforcing the positive narrative about Africa on the global stage. The ATB’s initiatives are designed to harness the rich and diverse cultures, landscapes, and histories of Africa, positioning the continent as a premier destination for global travellers while fostering unity among African nations.

The African Genius Awards, founded by Dr Sifiso Falala, CEO of Plus 94 Research, is a prestigious platform dedicated to recognising and honouring the extraordinary contributions of African individuals and organisations in various fields. Through these awards, the AGA aims to inspire future generations by showcasing the brilliance, resilience, and ingenuity that define the African spirit.

Cuthbert Ncube, Executive Chairman of the African Tourism Board, expressed his strong support for the African Genius Awards, highlighting the alignment of both organisations’ missions:

“The African Tourism Board is proud to endorse the African Genius Awards, a platform that not only aligns with our vision of a united and prosperous Africa but also amplifies our efforts to showcase Africa’s vast potential. The AGA’s commitment to celebrating African excellence resonates deeply with our own mission to promote a positive image of Africa through tourism. By recognising and honouring the continent’s geniuses, we are collectively contributing to the reshaping of Africa’s global narrative, one that is rooted in unity, innovation, and cultural pride.”

Ncube emphasised that the partnership between the ATB and the AGA will unlock new opportunities to link tourism with the recognition of intellectual and cultural achievements across the continent. This collaboration is poised to attract global attention, drawing visitors and investors alike who are eager to engage with Africa’s dynamic and vibrant cultural landscape.

Welcoming the endorsement, Dr Sifiso Falala, founder of the African Genius Awards and CEO of Plus 94 Research, spoke on the significance of this collaboration:

“We are deeply honoured by the endorsement of the African Tourism Board, an organization that has long been at the forefront of promoting Africa’s rich heritage and untapped potential. The African Genius Awards and the ATB share a common goal: to uplift the continent by celebrating the achievements of its people. With the ATB’s support, we are confident that the African Genius Awards will reach an even wider audience, inspiring more Africans to strive for excellence and reinforcing the global perception of Africa as a continent of unparalleled talent and innovation.”

Dr. Falala also highlighted the strategic importance of this partnership in advancing Pan-Africanism. He noted that by working together, the AGA and the ATB will create a robust platform for showcasing Africa’s intellectual and cultural capital, ultimately fostering greater unity and cooperation among African nations.

This collaboration will see the development of joint initiatives aimed at promoting both tourism and the recognition of African achievements. The ATB and AGA plan to host events, launch campaigns, and create content that highlights the connection between Africa’s rich cultural heritage and the innovative spirit of its people. These initiatives will not only celebrate African excellence but also drive tourism and investment into the continent, contributing to its socio-economic development.
