Echoes of Resistance

In the shadows of Table Mountain’s might,
Where the winds whisper secrets of the night,
A nation’s story unfolds, a tapestry so fine,
Woven from threads of struggle, blood, and vine.

The echoes of apartheid’s chains still bind,
But the spirits of Biko, Sobukwe, and the warriors of mind,
The cries of Sharpeville, Soweto’s flames,
The sacrifices made, the freedom gained.

We honour the forebears, the warriors of old,
Moshoeshoe, Sekhukhune, Shaka, Makhanda and Dingane,
Brave and bold,
Their resistance, a beacon that guides our way,
As we strive for justice, come what may.

The Black Consciousness Movement, a flame that burned bright,
Steve Biko’s vision, a nation awakened to its right,
To be free, to be proud, to be Black and Beautiful too,
A message that resonates, in all we do.

Yet, in this land of beauty, stark contrasts lie,
Between the haves and have-nots, the privileged eye,
The ongoing struggles, the systemic pains,
The injustices that still linger, like the scent of rains.

South Africa’s legacy dies, its name erased from time,
As Azania rises, born of struggle, freedom’s prime,
A new dawn breaks, where justice reigns supreme,
And the people’s voices echo, in a land redeemed.
