South African jazz crooner Hendrick Monyeki announces a special musical event titled “Tribute 2 SA Jazz Legends,” commemorating 30 years of democracy through the timeless songs of South Africa’s jazz music icons. The show will take place on July 28, 2024, at 4:00 PM at the prestigious Joburg Theatre.
This unique performance, led by Hendrick Monyeki and his Big Band featuring surprise guests, is dedicated to honoring the remarkable legacy of jazz artists who played a pivotal role in uplifting South African spirits during the nation’s darkest days. Their music continues to resonate with profound meaning and nostalgia, inspiring both audiences and artists alike.
Reflecting on the inspiration behind the show, Hendrick Monyeki shared, “As a young person, I vividly recall the impact of listening to these jazz legends with my family and community. Their music was more than entertainment; it was a beacon of hope and unity during challenging times. Today, I am honored to pay tribute to these extraordinary musicians who have profoundly influenced my craft.”
In addition to celebrating South Africa’s jazz heritage, Hendrick Monyeki and his team are launching an awareness campaign against the use of vapor and hubblybubbly among young people in Gauteng province. Despite being perceived as trendy and fun, these substances have tragically claimed lives and pose serious health risks.
Tickets for “Tribute 2 SA Jazz Legends” are available for purchase at Webticket (webticket.co.za) and the Joburg Theatre Box Office. General admission tickets are priced at R150, with a special rate of R100 for students (student ID required at Box Office purchase).
