Crisp Green Tech, a South African sustainability, renewable energy and green hydrogen developer, today announced its selection as the project lead for the ambitious 15GW Crisp Green Hydrogen Programme. This transformative initiative, located in the stunning coastal region of Boegoebaai within Namaqualand, will harness the Northern Cape’s abundant solar and wind resources to produce clean green hydrogen at scale, in close collaboration with the Richtersveld communities.
The 15GW programme represents one of the world’s largest green hydrogen projects, poised to generate up to 1.2 million tonnes of green hydrogen annually once fully operational. By integrating advanced electrolysis technology with local renewable energy infrastructure, the project will not only decarbonise global energy supply chains but also create thousands of sustainable jobs, foster skills development, and empower indigenous communities through revenue-sharing models and community-led initiatives.
“This is a historic moment for Crisp Green Tech and the Richtersveld people,” said Leo Crisp, CEO of Crisp Green Tech. “As project lead, we are committed to building a just energy transition that prioritises environmental stewardship, cultural heritage, and equitable prosperity.
The Crisp Green Hydrogen Programme will position Boegoebaai as a global hub for green energy innovation, delivering real benefits to the communities who call this land home.”
The partnership with the Richtersveld communities underscores a model of inclusive development. Local stakeholders will play a pivotal role in governance, from site selection to ongoing operations, ensuring that the project aligns with traditional land rights and ecological sensitivities.
Early phases include community training programmes in renewable technologies and the establishment of a Richtersveld Green Energy Trust to reinvest project revenues into education, healthcare, and conservation efforts.
In parallel, Crisp Green Tech will in the next 6 months be issuing an open call to potential strategic equity partners and appealing to offtakers worldwide to be in contact. The programme’s downstream products, green ammonia for fertilisers and shipping, green fertiliser for agriculture, and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) for the global airline industry offer unmatched opportunities for long-term, low-carbon supply chains.
Interested parties are invited to contact the project team for detailed investment and offtake discussions.
“Green hydrogen isn’t just about energy; it’s about unlocking a circular economy that feeds the world sustainably,” added Crisp. “We welcome collaborations that amplify our impact, from equity investments to binding offtake agreements, to accelerate the global shift away from fossil fuels.”
The Crisp Green Hydrogen Programme is scheduled to break ground in 2029, with first production targeted for 2031. Environmental impact assessments and stakeholder consultations are underway, building on the region’s established renewable energy corridor.
