AFAP in partnership with the Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa (FARA) and the Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme ex-Pillar 4 (CAADP-XP4) are excited to extend an invitation to stakeholders to the upcoming 8th African Agribusiness and Science Week (AASW8)in Durban, South Africa, from 5-8 June 2023

This highly anticipated event will serve as the leading continental platform for stakeholders involved in agriculture and agribusiness research and innovation in Africa, and we believe your presence will greatly contribute to the discussions and outcomes.

The AASW8, themed “Strengthening Partnerships between Research Institutions and Private Sector Partners to Boost Intra-African Trade,” will bring together over 1,500 stakeholders every three years to share knowledge, network, create business alliances, and collectively map out priorities for joint action. As a delegate, you will have the opportunity to participate in thought-provoking plenary sessions, parallel sessions, side events, workshops, field visits, and an investment forum, all revolving around the event’s central theme.

Of particular significance is the Business Parallel Session on “A Call to Action on Strengthening Science-Business Linkages to Promote the Relevance and Contribution of Research to Boost Intra-African Trade,”scheduled for Tuesday, June 6, 2023, from 11:00am to 13:00pm. During this session, AFAP will take the organizational lead, collaborating with esteemed partners such as FARA, AFAAS, CORAF, ASARECA, CCARDESA, and FAO. The objective of this session is to identify bottlenecks in linking science to business, explore avenues for strengthening the science-business nexus, and leverage points to boost intra-African trade.

The parallel session will be divided into two panel discussions, featuring prominent experts and industry leaders who will provide invaluable insights and engage in dynamic discussions. Panel 1, titled “Empowering Africa’s Agricultural Transformation: Unleashing the Potential of Science, Innovation, and Productivity,” will delve into the role of science, innovation, and enhanced productivity in driving sustainable agricultural development across Africa. Panel 2, titled “Transforming Agribusiness: Leveraging Aggregation, Finance, Supply Chain Development, and Intra-African Trade toward Sustainable Agricultural and Economic Growth,” will focus on critical elements of agribusiness value chains and strategies to unlock their full potential.

We look forward to your presence and meaningful contributions at the 8th African Agribusiness and Science Week, as together we strive to strengthen science-business linkages and boost intra-African trade for a more prosperous future.
