Africa is poised to tap into its vast ocean economy, estimated at a staggering $3 trillion, by gathering global industry leaders, investors, and innovators at a high-impact three-day event.

The Africa Maritime Investment Indaba, being held under the theme ‘Unlocking Africa’s $3 Trillion Ocean Economy’, takes place from 6 to 8 November at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre. The conference promises to catalyse ground-breaking partnerships and investments across multiple maritime sectors.

Attendees from across the continent and beyond – including delegations from Nigeria, Namibia, Libya, Tanzania, Russia, China, Denmark, Georgia, Ghana, Kenya, Tunisia, New Guinea, Cameroon, Greece, Mozambique, Rwanda, India, Egypt, and Fiji – will convene to invest in Africa’s integrated maritime strategy, with innovative financial instruments, smart port city development, and sustainable coastal city-building.

Day one will focus on knowledge-sharing excursions, with site visits that showcase Africa’s growing capabilities in maritime manufacturing, environmental conservation, and maritime education. Attendees can expect key industry facilities such as the SA Shipyards, Transnet Maritime Academy, and the renowned Sharks Board will open their doors to delegates, providing insights into Africa’s manufacturing capabilities, fisheries, aquaculture, aquatic foods, and ocean ecosystem conservation efforts.

Day two kicks-off with a Market Day which is a series of plenaries designed to guide investors through Africa’s frontrunner maritime markets and identification of priority pipeline projects.

The second day will conclude with the annual Maritime Gala, a premier networking event featuring high-profile African dignitaries, including the Premier Thamsanqa Ntuli, Honourable Ministers Mpho Parks Tau and Mkhuleko Hlengwa, and distinguished international guests. The Gala aims to celebrate the achievements and future investments of Africa’s Ocean economy.

The third and final day of the Indaba will provide attendees with an in-depth look into niche areas of Africa’s ocean economy with parallel sessions on marine security, marine safety, and small and medium enterprises value chains.

With delegations from nearly 20 countries, diplomats based in Durban, bilateral business chambers including global leaders from Russia, China, Denmark, India, and Fiji, this event is shaping up to be a major milestone for Africa’s maritime sector.
