The much-anticipated 25th edition of the Standard Bank Joy of Jazz Festival is set to deliver another stellar experience, with the exciting addition of two acclaimed artists, Pilani Bubu and Kujenga, to this year’s lineup. These talented musicians will bring their unique styles to the Conga Stage, adding further depth to a festival renowned for its diverse musical offerings.
Pilani Bubu, a celebrated singer-songwriter, TV presenter, and creative entrepreneur, has built a reputation for delivering deeply moving performances. Over the past decade, her enchanting melodies, coupled with her remarkable vocal control and lyrical depth, have captivated audiences globally. Her presence at this year’s festival is expected to add a rich and soulful dimension to the event.
Kujenga, known for their innovative fusion of traditional African rhythms with contemporary jazz, has also garnered widespread acclaim. Their performances are known for creating dynamic and memorable moments, and their inclusion in this year’s lineup is expected to excite jazz enthusiasts and music lovers alike.
Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances, the Sipario Deltones will not be performing at this year’s festival. Despite this, festival producer Mantwa Chinoamadi expressed great enthusiasm for the updated lineup. “We are thrilled about Pilani Bubu and Kujenga’s participation. They are poised to contribute to the extraordinary ambiance that the continent’s premier jazz festival is renowned for,” Chinoamadi remarked.
Scheduled to take place from September 27th to 28th at the Sandton Convention Centre, the festival will celebrate its 25th anniversary, marking a quarter-century of jazz excellence in South Africa. Since its inception, the Standard Bank Joy of Jazz (SBJOJ) has evolved into one of Africa’s most prestigious jazz events, providing a platform for both seasoned and emerging artists to showcase their talent on a global stage.
This year’s celebration promises to be extra special, with the festival reflecting on its rich legacy while continuing to push the boundaries of jazz music. The inclusion of artists like Pilani Bubu and Kujenga underscores the event’s commitment to innovation and cultural enrichment, ensuring that jazz remains a vibrant and evolving art form.
Jazz lovers are eagerly awaiting the return of SBJOJ to experience the magic of live performances once again, with the added excitement of celebrating 25 years of this iconic festival.
